Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (unsmoked Lapsang). This is the classic tea from the Wuyi Mountain village of Tongmu prized for its 'smoothness' and layered flavors with a slight fruitiness. Xiao Zhong refers to the small leaf varietal used to produce this tea. Staff have rated this tea as a "value plus" tea meaning is it affordable and can be taken at any time of day with or without food/snacks.

One of my favorites!

I’ve been purchasing this tea for a while. Always keep some in my stock of teas at home. It’s super comforting, rich, and complex in flavor. Luxurious, well-balanced, medium-bodied tea with hints of cocoa. Please keep this one available!

Better than "value plus"

Frankly, between the modest Strand description and knowing that Xiao Zhong can seem a bit rustic, I wasn't expecting much. Furthermore, Xiao Zhong can be picked and processed in so many ways, yielding delicate bud teas (Jin Jun Mei) to oolong-like large leaf wild bush teas. Some teas emphasize the florals, others aim for a brisk oxidized tea that appeals to the Western world, and still others aim to bring out the baked sweet potato character that can be expressed by this variety. Somehow this tea manages to combine all of these characteristics in one flavorful, aromatic, and balanced tea. Is this the best Xiao Zhong I've had? No, but it's a very nice tea and at a reasonable price.
